What Crumb gives away for free

Crumb was founded first and foremost with the idea that everyone should have free access to a tool that helps them bring their lost pets home. That's the reason that Crumb tags are free, and why we offer a free version of Crumb in the app. The more participants we can add to the network, the more effective Crumb becomes.

If a user is in the free tier of Crumb, and a stranger scans their pet's tag, they're shown a pet profile with basic contact information to reach them. They can also mark their pet as missing, which will make their pet's 'Missing Pet Profile' visible to other Crumb users in their area via the Community Page.

So you've upgraded your account! Here's what you've unlocked...

Crumb is even more effective now that you've activated a premium membership. You now have access to a host of additional features to help protect your pet.

A strong Pet Profile is critical to your pet's safety

As a premium member, you can now put as much information into the pet profile as you wish. As a general rule, the more information, the better. Here are some tips to make sure a stranger has all the details they need to identify, and care for your pet while they work on getting them back to you.

1. Upload a high quality photo. A clear, well-lit photo that shows your pet's face and body will help people in their search if your pet ever goes missing. Be sure to frame the image as carefully as possible in the app. Help Center Article: Change Your Pet's Photo
2. Ensure your pet's info is accurate. Making sure the breed, coat color and age are correct contribute to how easily your pet will be recognized when strangers are looking for them. Help Center Article: Edit Pet Details
3. Include any allergies, medications, or other relevant notes. This information will help a stranger, or vet to care for your pet until they can be returned to you. 
4. Scan the tag yourself to see what a stranger will see if they find your pet. Make sure there's nothing else you would want that person to know about!

GPS Alerts

Crumb tags themselves are not GPS trackers. Products like that do exist, but they are much heavier, and more expensive than our lightweight QR tags. However, now that you have upgraded to Crumb Premium, your Pet Profiles now have a button that allows the person who scans the tag to send you their phone's location, so you'll know exactly where they found your pet. You don't need to do anything to enable this, it's active as soon as you upgrade to Premium. 

SnoutID: a unique "fingerprint" of your pet's nose

SnoutID is Crumb's own revolutionary feature that uses a scan of your pet's nose to create a digital ID for them that's as unique as a fingerprint. This creates a fail-safe measure giving anyone the ability to identify your pet, even if they lose their tag, and their microchip fails.

A growing tool to combat pet theft

Sadly, in many parts of the world, there is a black market for the purchase of stolen pets. In the UK, it is estimated that at least four pets are stolen by pet thieves per day. These thieves will even go as far as to remove a pet's microchip to ensure they are not identifiable by a vet. SnoutID puts the vet back in control, giving them a new tool to identify a stolen pet that is brought to them.

As SnoutID slowly gains widespread adoption, we dream of a future where it is able to make pet theft no longer viable for the criminals, putting an end to the practice altogether.

Tell as many people as you can that your pet is missing

Crumb's true power lies in it's huge, and rapidly growing network. The more people that are looking for your missing pet, the more likely you are to get them back quickly. Now that you're a premium member, marking your pet as 'Missing' will trigger an alarm system to tell your community that your pet is lost! This feature is now active automatically, but here's how it all works:

Community Alerts

Your pet's missing pet profile will still be visible on the community page, but now Crumb takes this a step further by emailing all participating Crumb members within a 5-mile (8km) radius of the place you last saw your pet, at the moment you mark them as missing.

Our users see a picture of your pet, along with as much relevant information as you can give them to help them in their search. We find that our community members take missing pets very seriously, and will do everything they can to help alert the owners of sightings, or any other information that will help them get their pets back. 

We see our users reunited with their pets on a daily basis thanks to the commitment of the Crumb Community!

Vet/Shelter Alerts

At the same time as our users are alerted of your missing pet, any and all vets, and shelters in your area are also sent the same alert. This means their staff will be ready, and expecting your pet if anyone brings them in. No more waiting for a microchip scan, these people will already have the information they need the minute your pet is brought through the door.

Social SOS

Crumb will help you prepare a Facebook post about your missing pet, to be posted by our account, targeted at people in your area. This recruits the help of people who are not already Crumb users to help join in on the search! If your pet is missing, don't miss out on this powerful tool that's at your disposal!

Add an additional address

If your pet moves between more than one address, you can now add that to your Pet Profiles! Help Center Article: Adding an extra address

Add additional contacts

You can now add an unlimited number of extra contacts to your Pet Profiles. This means that if you're unable to answer your phone, a stranger can go down the list, and try to reach each extra person's number you add. The more contacts you add, the higher your chances of getting your pet back quickly. Help Center Article: Managing Contacts

Emergency Contacts

You can now make any of your contacts into "Emergency Contacts". This means that if you don't answer your phone, the call will automatically roll over after 12 seconds, and redirect to each of your other contacts in sequence that you've made into emergency contacts. These people will also receive the GPS scan alerts sent by anyone who finds your pet. [Help Center Article Needed for Emergency Contacts]

Trusted People

This is a great new way to share the responsibility of your Crumb account. You can invite up to five people to become Trusted People on your account, which gives them the ability to mark your pet as missing, and to receive GPS alerts if someone scans their tag. If you share a pet with a family member, or you have a dog walker, for instance, this feature is a must!

Holiday/Vacation Mode

This new feature works in tandem with Trusted People to allow you to temporarily, and automatically turn a pet sitter of your choosing into the primary contact so that they can mark your pet as missing, and even be the first person to be called when someone finds your missing pet while you're away on vacation. You can program your vacation days, ahead of time in the app, so you can focus on packing for your trip while Crumb takes care of the rest!  Help Center Article: Introducing: Holiday Mode

Unlimited Free Replacement tags

If your pet happens to lose, or damage their Crumb tag, you can order a new one for free in the app. Help Center Article: Order a Free Replacement Tag

Privacy Mode

This feature is completely optional, but premium users have the ability to hide the first line of each of the addresses on their account. They can also hide their pet's name, if they like. As a premium user, Crumb now automatically hides the phone numbers on your Pet Profiles to protect your privacy using a feature called "Call Masking. This is similar to the technology used by Uber, for instance.

Our referral program

Premium members can also take advantage of our referral program, which helps makes the network even stronger. For each person you refer to Crumb Premium that renews their membership, you'll both get a free month of Crumb Premium, and we'll even donate $10.00 for each of you to a charity of your choosing!
