Sometimes, a pet may need to move to a new owner for any number of reasons. We at Crumb recommend that each pet owner have their own account in order to be able to manage their own pets' tags by themselves. If you are giving a pet away that pet already has a Crumb tag, you will most likely need to transfer that tag to someone else's account.
There are two basic ways this can be accomplished. Handing over control of a Crumb account, or having customer support move a tag, or tags from one account to another existing one. Please read this whole article to see which method most applies to your situation.
Option 1: Handing over control of a Crumb account to another person
This is the best option when there is only one pet on the account, and the current owner no longer has a use for the account. For example, say a mother creates an account for her son's dog, and then later that son moves out of the house with the dog, she can hand over the tag, and control of her Crumb account to her son. Here is how you can do this:
Open Owner Information
Start by opening the Crumb app, and then open 'Owner Information' by clicking the circular icon on the top right. This may be your profile picture, or your initials.
Open 'Account Details', and change the email on the account
A Crumb account essentially belongs to whoever can log into it with their email. Simply by changing the email in "Account Details", you are giving over your account to the person whose email you enter. Type in the email that the new owner would like to use to log in, and then simply log out. Because Crumb uses a verification code system for login, there's no password to worry about here.
The new owner can request a code, log in with their own email, and then update the rest of the information by themselves. Alternatively, you can do it for them before you log out. Here is a guide you can share with the new owner to let them update all their own information.
Please note: your payment method may still be on this account.
You may need to instruct this other person to change the payment method to their own, if applicable. Help Center: How to update your payment method
Option 2: Having Customer Support transfer a tag from one account to another
This makes the most sense when there are other pets still on the account whose tags will not be moving from one account to the other. Let's say for example that you have ordered two tags, but one is actually meant to be a gift for your friend, and their dog who live separately from you. Your friend will need their own account in order to control the information displayed by their dog's tag, and manage any subscriptions etc.
Crumb will be working on making a better system for this kind of situation, but for now, you can ask the person receiving the tag to create their own account. Here's how they'll do that:
Have them visit Crumb.pet and create an incomplete order
Have your friend go to the website at crumb.pet, and "order" a tag for each of their pets. If you are giving them one tag for a dog named Elvis, have them place an order for one tag, for a dog named Elvis. Don't worry, they won't be paying for anything, and we won't actually have to send them a tag.
Have them enter their personal information
Once they complete this page, and click 'Continue', they will have their own account. Please let them know not to complete the payment information on the next page. Make sure they remember the email address they typed in!
Email us, and let us know which pet's tags we'll be transferring
Send us an an email at support@crumb.pet, from the email that you yourself used to create your own account. Let us know the email address your friend used to create their account, and which of your pets' tags we should transfer to that account. We'll let you know when that's done!
Have them log into the Crumb app with their own email
When they log into the Crumb app, they should see their pet's pet profile on the home page!
