If you're testing out the "Share location" function of the Pet Profile, and you're being sent a location that's not quite the place you're scanning the tag from, it's possible that your phone does not have "Precise Location" enabled.
Why this exists
Your smartphone lets you decide which apps get to see your exact location, and which ones only get to see a general area. For example, your weather app does not need to know the exact place you're standing in order to tell you the weather in your city, whereas a ride-share app will need to help a driver find you right where you are. We'll show you how to activate Precise Location for the browser you're using to send Crumb GPS alerts.
Determine which browser you're using
When you scan a Crumb tag, it automatically opens your default internet browser app in order to show you the online Pet Profile. This means that "Use precise location" will need to be turned on for whichever app is trying to send you a GPS location.
For most iPhone users, this will be Safari, and for most Android users, this will be Google Chrome, or Samsung Internet, unless the user has set something different as their default browser.
Take note of which app opens when you scan a Crumb tag. We'll start with the iPhone, and then show you the typical Android instructions as well.
For iPhone:
Open 'Settings' and then 'Privacy and Security'
Open the settings app, then scroll down to "Privacy and Security', and click that.
Click on 'Location Services'
This should be the first button on the page. The Location Services page lets you control the location sharing settings for each app individually. Assuming you're using Safari, scroll down to that and select it. If your iPhone opens another browser instead when the Crumb tag is scanned, locate that app instead (eg. Firefox, Brave, Chrome etc.)

Activate 'Precise Location'
Ensure that Location Access is allowed for your browser by selecting either "Ask Next time Or When I Share", or ideally "While Using the App". Then, click the toggle that says "Precise Location" so that the switch is green, and the white oval is on the right side.
For Android:
- Open Phone Settings
- Tap Apps, then select the app you want to change (most likely Chrome, Google itself, or Samsung Internet)
- Tap Permissions, then Location
- Ensure location permissions are on
